Synonyms Hoya ‘VitVit’

Category selection from an Open pollination.

Published as a “suspected cross between H.vitellinoides x H.vitellina“. Seedlings of ‘Noelle’ do confirm that it is a cross, and result in progeny with many more like one parent and many more like the other. The order of the cross is not known since it occurred naturally at the Hawaiian home of longtime horticulturalist Michael Miyashiro. ‘Noelle’ has also been used in further breeding and open pollination selection.

Description

Leaves: Broad. Nearly glabrous on adaxial but lightly pubescent along the margins and the concave abaxial. They are reminiscent of turtle shells in their ornate pattern and shape which is rigid in a mature leaf. Secondary venation is pinnate and the fine veins form a reticulate pattern that on average appears dark green in low light and bright green over yellow-orange to light red in high light.

Inflorescence: Light yellow corolla, reflexed like Hoya vitellina. The corona lobes are a pearlescent light pink at their outer angles which spread in a flat star. The translucent white inner angles of the corona lobes meet at the anther head which is white. ‘Noelle’ blooms prolifically in warm and humid weather. The blooms emit a pleasant citrus fragrance, not like the bleach scent from some clones of Hoya vitellina. It is not as heavily scented as Hoya vitellinoides.
